  1. PJ and Duncan release their 3rd single, ‘Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble!’ reaching number 9 in the official charts.
    2. Tony Blair is eleccted as Labour Party leader.

  1. The first episode of The Vicar of Dibley broadcasts on BBC 1.

  2. The first National Lottery draw is held. A £1 ticket gave a 1 in 14,000,000 chance of correctly guessing the right number. Today a £2 ticket gives a 1 in 45,000,000 chance.

  3. The Daily Telegraph becomes the first national newspaper in Britain to launch an online edition.
