09/12/09 JourneyCheck 5 Goes Live for First Great Western

The new version of JourneyCheck went live for First Great Western on 09/12/09. The solution can be viewed here.

We worked closely with First Great Western in order to present the information available in new more detailed categories, allowing for easy checking of disruption.

Information is also now available in individual windows that can be moved around and maximised or minimised depending on user preference.

The following categories were created for First Great Western:

  • Line Updates
  • Train Cancellations
  • Other Train Service Updates
  • Train Formation Updates
  • Catering Updates
  • Improvement Works for Today
  • London Underground Updates
  • Station Departure Boards
  • Station Arrival Boards

In particular we broke out Train Formation Updates and Catering Updates. Thus, an altered train (for example, calling at some additional stations) which also has a change to the planned catering will now appear both in the Other Train Service Updates, and the Catering Updates. The same is true for trains that are running with a reduced number of carriages, or additional carriages which can be the case after disruption or when there are special events.

JourneyCheck 5 supports such configuration options.

Of course the solution still supports the features present in JourneyCheck 4. For example you can still arrange the departure boards in the order that the services will arrive at the location you are travelling to - and not just in the order that they leave in. This is useful for routes where there are fast services and slower services that "call all stations". This feature also takes account of any delays. So no more running to catch trains which are then overtaken by services that you could have caught in a more leisurely manner!
