Information for Drivers
Overview
Nexus Alpha has developed a key application which allows drivers to be updated with operational and safety information.
For this, Tyrell (the data capture system used in Train Operating Company Controls) is used to send specific operational messages to HELIOS Lite screens.
System Features
Standard system capabilities include:

To communicate with Drivers in “Real Time”
- To provide a significant amount of information “on-screen” in an easily readable format
- To provide confirmation of message receipt
- To aggregate similar types of information (e.g. individual emergency speed restrictions) into a list
- To handle messages that may be relevant for a long period of time (e.g. emergency speed restrictions) at the same time as short-term messages (e.g. daily heat related speed restrictions, leaf fall advice.)
Screens are capable of presenting the following different types of information:
- Emergency Speed Restrictions
- Daily Special Speed Restrictions (e.g. heat related)
- Sandite Coverage and Rail Adhesion Problems
- General Train Crew Notices
- Other (free format) Information
The number of pages displayed expands automatically ensuring that all live messages continue to cycle around until they “expire” or are “cleared”.
The length of time the page is displayed for depends on the amount of content.
Control Room operators are able to check what information is currently on each of their depot displays.

Data Capture Using Tyrell
The above image shows the entry form that the Tyrell user would complete in order to display information on the Drivers Display Screens.
The form includes both optional and compulsory fields in order to ensure that entry is quick and easy, and also to ensure that the content published on the screens is complete.
