TyrellCheck for all

Overview

TyrellCheck makes information entered on Tyrell (and submitted via the TyrellCheck solution itself) available on a web based platform. It takes the JourneyCheck concept, and expands it into an operational tool as well as one with customer facing information.

The solution can be accessed via the internet (with user id and password protection) or via a TOC intranet in which case IP authentication can automatically log in the user.

For those staff who are logging into TyrellCheck externally to upload files or submit messages, a secure user name and password is always required, thus safeguarding the entries made.

TyrellCheck seamlessly interfaces with Tyrell – it is merely a matter of adding “virtual” forwarding locations (which are set up as standard Tyrell Addresses) to the templates as default Addresses (or alternatively adding such addresses ‘on the fly’ when the message is sent). These correspond to the route selection filters on the solution. In the example below, if the Address “Mainline Inner” were added to the Addresses, when the message was sent, any TyrellCheck user ticking either “Whole Network”, or “Mainline Inner” (or both) would be able to view this information.

Filters

A range of other filters are available to the TyrellCheck user, the solution allowing the information to be viewed in a number of ways. As well as being able to search back to view up to the previous ninety days of information using the Date Range Filter, the following filters are also available:

  • Route Selection
  • Keyword Search
  • Message Ordering
  • Message Type filters
  • Message Validity Filter (this filter works like the ‘Active Messages’ filters on Tyrell - the messaging validity filter allows TyrellCheck users to look at a selection of the TyrellCheck messages at one time including expired messages, active messages and the latest messages received.)

Message Type Filters

This filter enables only messages of certain types to be displayed:

  • Train - all messages sent from Control about delays, alterations and cancellations to specified trains.
  • Line of Route - messages from Control relating to general incidents such as Signaling Problems, Bridge Bashes, Security Alerts and People on the Track.
  • Engineering Works - those messages sent by Control relating to forthcoming engineering works (pre-planned or emergency).
  • Text - those more general messages sent out in the form of free text from Control, such as Weather Forecasts, Stock Changes etc.
  • Web - those messages sent via TyrellCheck

As well as posting messages directly via the TyrellCheck solution, files can be uploaded for general access. For example, National Express East Anglia uploaded their emergency timetable during the disruption caused by the heavy February 2009 snowfall, and requested that staff at stations print this out for distribution.

By using Tyrell in combination with JourneyCheck, JourneyCheck Alerts and TyrellCheck, it is possible to manage information flows and provision throughout quiet and very disrupted periods. In this way, consistent information is made available directly to the public via third parties and most importantly directly and instantly to TOC staff (both front line and support).
