Overview

JourneyCheck Alerts allows commuters to remain informed of any service disruption that has or will or may have an impact on their journey.

The Benefits of Providing JourneyCheck Alerts to Commuters

Unlike many other alerting services JourneyCheck Alerts makes use of a range of different types of information in order to inform customers of disruption.

The version of JourneyCheck Alerts used by franchised rail operators combines train service disruption (i.e. cancellations and alterations) with both manual and automated train service delay information and, crucially, line of route disruption. JourneyCheck Alerts Lite is the solution based on general updates rather than disruption to individual services.

This inclusion of route disruption allows your customers to be informed if there is disruption that may affect their service - whether they are yet to catch a train, or already on board. This raises the benchmark in altering services.

Regular commuters who leave within a time window (very often the case when there is a frequent service), can register their interest in a number of trains by recording a range of times. They can also select when they would like to start being informed about disruption.

The latest release of JourneyCheck Alerts also allows targeted service information to be sent to groups of subscribers based on the stations they catch services from or alight at, or based on the route that they take.

These "broadcast messages" can be sent using the JourneyCheck Alerts Console.

This allows direct communication with customers when there are planned improvements (and therefore, often disruption to the journey) and of course when there is major unplanned disruption. This was used very effectively by many of our clients during the disruption caused by snow in January 2010.

The key benefit of the solution is ensuring that regular commuters receive the best possible information about any disruption.

The reality of course is that service punctuality is generally very high, and virtually all services complete their full scheduled journeys. Disruption information is therefore very much the exception rather than the norm; but when there is disruption, keeping customers informed automatically is of significant benefit.

In order that commuters can be contacted they need to register with the service. This registration information is therefore available, and allows you to build up a picture of your commuter base.
